Horry County, South Carolina
Horry County (pronounced O-REE') was named after the Revolutionary War Hero, Peter Horry, and is the largest of 46 counties in the state of South Carolina, containing 1,143 square miles of land and water. The 2000 cenus recorded the county's population to 217,608. In 2006, the Census Bureau estimated that its population had reached 238,493.
The county seat is Conway, and its largest city is Myrtle Beach. The county shares an arc-shaped strip
of beaches and barrier islands with Georgetown County called "The Grand Strand", which is a major U.S. tourist destination and retirement area.
Commuters arrive by car, by air via the Myrtle Beach International Airport, and by boat at one of our many full-service marinas on the Intracoastal Waterway.
