Conway, South Carolina was originally founded in 1732 as the village of Kingston. Conway is currently home to more than 13,000 residents and is the county seat of Horry County. Conway has been designated as a Tree City USA for 22 consecutive years.

Conway has two well known schools for higher education:
Coastal Carolina University is a public, primarily undergraduate, liberal arts institution. Coastal offers baccalaureate degrees in 36 programs, as well as six master’s degree programs in education, seven cooperative degree programs with South Carolina universities, and 10 international exchange programs. The university has an enrollment of more than 6,000 students who represent 47 states and 49 foreign countries. Coastal student-athletes compete in the NCAA Division I. The university’s intercollegiate football program competes at the NCAA I-AA level.
Horry Georgetown Technical College is a comprehensive community college serving Horry and Georgetown counties through it’s three campuses, distance and online learning, and a full spectrum of business and corporate training. HGTC annually enrolls more than 3,700 curriculum students, and services more than 17,000 through programs for personal skills enhancement and specialized job training. The Conway campus is the first and largest of the college’s three campuses, and houses the Allied Health Division, Golf Course Technology, Electronics Technology, Culinary Arts and dozens of other curriculums. The campus is also home to the acclaimed Fowler and Belk Dining Rooms, in which Culinary Arts students prepare and serve gourmet lunches to more than 8,000 patrons a year.
